What can Drupal learn from other projects?
We all know that Drupal is powerful and flexible, but it’s not the only game in town. This roundtable will bring together people with deep experience in other open source CMS ecosystems — including WordPress, Joomla, CraftCMS, and possibly others — to compare notes with the Drupal community. What can we learn from how other projects solve similar challenges? What can Drupal teach them in return?
Our discussion will cover both the software and the communities that grow around it. Topics may include:
- How do different CMS projects attract and retain new users?
- What kinds of monetization or sustainability models exist — from commercial licenses to marketplaces to hosted offerings — and how do they affect community dynamics?
How do different platforms balance ease of use with flexibility and power?
- What community norms or tooling from other ecosystems might be worth borrowing?
- What aspects of other CMSes do you miss when working in Drupal? And what makes you glad to be in Drupal instead?
This session will be a forum for curiosity, comparison, and cross-pollination. We'll invite attendees to share their own multi-platform experiences and to consider how Drupal might evolve by learning from its peers.
